Menai SUP Cleanup

We have been busy cleaning up the Menai Strait with Sian Sykes from Journey With Sian.

A key part of the cleanup was to highlight some of the issues facing the Menai for both businesses and the environment.

As part of our Swimways project in the Menai, we have been busy picking up Litter. The day involved launching the SUP from Porthaethwy before stopping at Eglwys Sant Tysilio. The beach was littered with microplastics and general waste. The team then continued on to Nelson’s column where the team continued to pick up litter.

6 buckets were filled during the day including everything from face masks to plastic straws.

Oisin the forum coordinator commented, “The sheer amount of microplastics that you find once you really start looking is alarming. However, it’s great to see so many members of the community come out to make a positive change in the Menai”.
